Mako Nishimori
Kochi, Japan → Manhattan
Mako Nishimori is a ceramic artist from Kochi, Japan. Mako owns Togei Kyoshitsu in Manhattan — a studio that teaches traditional Japanese methods of ceramics, founded in 1994 under the principle that food and art are complementary, bringing the aesthetics of Japan to New York.
Since 1999 she has played an active role as a director of the Tokyo–NY ceramic competition. Togei’s second-generation owner, Risa Nishimori, is also on this roster.
